DIGIMON STORY: TIME STRANGER GETS 2027 EXPANSION AND NEW MOBILE REVEAL

Bandai Namco is looking to really invest more into the Digimon world, what with some recently revealed news that has definitely gotten the community talking. The headliner? It is the official word of a big expansion coming to Digimon Story: Time Stranger. Details about the story are still secret, however, the studio has said it will be coming in 2027, as the release window for the DLC. This update should be a pretty considerable addition to the game and comparable in size to well-liked previous games like Hacker’s Memory.

But the news was not only about consoles. The company also announced Digimon Up, a brand new mobile game that will not be another trading card game. It is being called a journey that "moves with your life,"; and the art style is a cool, classic pixel art look. You pick a Digimon to be your partner, then you have to raise it, train it, and make it evolve through all its forms, and after that you can use it in battles fighting other player’s Digimon. Differently to the console expansion that is a few years away, Digimon Up is being released on mobile devices later this year.

Project Name Type Platform Release Window
Time Stranger Expansion Major DLC PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S 2027
Digimon Up Mobile Game Android, iOS Late 2026
Time Stranger Base Game Port Nintendo Switch Late 2026

For those who have not yet jumped into the game, Digimon Story: Time Stranger is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, but Switch owners will not have to wait too much longer; a dedicated port for the handheld family is also confirmed for a late 2026 launch. This platform expansion makes sure that a wider audience can experience the latest JRPG chapter before the massive 2027 expansion drops.

Digimon Up is going to operate as a free-to-play title with in-app purchases, and it incorporates classic features – things like Digivices and Digimon Cards – into its pixelated loop. Bandai Namco’s strategy is fairly clear. They want to keep the console audience engaged with long-term expansions, while are also trying to capture the casual mobile market with retro-style monster raising. With a packed schedule though 2027, the Digimon franchise is entering what could be one of its most active phases yet.
